Devoted to the period sound to the point that the album was recorded in London's famously retro Toe Rag Studios and includes covers of mod-era classics from "I Can't Explain" to Jimmy Page 's solo single "She Just Satisfies," Stark Raving Mod! adds absolutely nothing new to the style - if they had, they would have failed in their mission! - but.
I bought this CD when I met the members of the group about two years ago in Groningen, The Netherlands. I already knew the drummer, Jack Outhuis, who was then a colleague. It was he who invited me to come and see them play.
Audio CD, February 24, 2003. This disc has a great retro sound, very mod and somewhat garage. This is fun music, not a dud track to be found. Why aren't these guys famous? This is so much better than most other "new" music. Fantastic fuzzy guitars and vocals that sound like early swingin' London.
Well, 'Stark Raving Mod' is our Who/Kinks album, they replied, and 'All The Rage' is sort of our Beatle album. I took my best friends with me and they were thrilled to see and hear them play. Unfortunately none of the group members had thought of taking the merchandise with them so my hope of adding 'All The Rage' to my collection was squashed.
