Clifford Curzon (piano), London Philharmonic Orchestra, Sir Adrian Boult. Indeed, it is good to have Curzon in a live performance of this work as, although he recorded a short studio recital of works by Liszt and Schubert for the BBC in December 1961, he omitted the first and most substantial Impromptu playing only the last three. One of the highlights of the 1961 Edinburgh Festival was Curzon’s performance of Mozart’s last Piano Concerto, . 95 in B flat.

Clifford Curzon plays Mozart, Schubert & Liszt.

23 & 24, K. 488, 491, Schubert: Impromptus, d. 899:3,4. Clifford Curzon was a very special Mozartean-a pianist of exceptional ability who communicated profound insights into the music and played with the utmost refinement. By temperament he was highly strung, and he tended to be nervous in front of the microphones. But his readings of four of Mozart's greatest concertos, recorded near the end of his life under ideal circumstances, must be counted among the most impressive in the catalog.
