Antonio Carlos Jobim & Luiz Bonfá - Batterie de Cappela Orfeu Da Conceicao - Antonio Carlos Jobim/Luiz Bonfá. 14. Antonio Carlos Jobim - Overture - Antonio Carlos Jobim. 15. Vinícius de Moraes - Monólogo de Orfeu - Vinicius de Moraes. Luiz Bonfa also shows where Bossa nova beats were developing melodically and are quite impressive. However, the bulk of this collection is what I would call pre-Bossa. That said, the collection ends in a stunning 1954 album by Laurindo Almeida Quartet that is worth the cost of the entire collection. It presages Jobim and Gilberto in an almost Getzian jazz bossa musicality. Its inclusion makes one reassess the roots of this music that brings such bliss to so many.

Luiz Bonfa is a fantastic musician - a fact revealed in this album. It's simply beautiful music that you can listen to any time. On a sunny day, Bonfa's unrivaled guitaring (complimented by funky Brasilian percussion, Jobim-esque piano, the pure tones of Maria Toledo, and occasional, unobtrusive strings) will convince you that you've arrived in 60s Rio.
Luiz Floriano Bonfá (17 October 1922 – 12 January 2001) was a Brazilian guitarist and composer. He was best known for the compositions he penned for the film Black Orpheus. Luiz Floriano Bonfá was born on October 17, 1922, in Rio de Janeiro.
While it's true that Luiz Bonfá is a forgotten name among many bossa nova lovers - past and present - a forgotten name rarely associated with his younger peers he influenced (Jobim, Gilberto, de Moraes) who took the music to international popularity. Bonfá is a ghost whose shadow looms large over the music, whether he is well known or not. He composed both main themes for Black Orpheus, which ended up on the hit soundtrack.
Música popular brasileira or MPB is a trend in post-bossa nova urban popular music in Brazil that revisits typical Brazilian styles such as samba, samba-canção and baião and other Brazilian regional music, combining them with foreign influences, such as jazz and rock. This movement has produced and is represented by many renowned Brazilian artists, such as Jorge Ben Jor, Novos Baianos, Chico Buarque and Dominguinhos, whose individual styles generated their own trends within the genre
