Columbia (/kəˈlʌmbiə/; kə-LUM-bee-ə) is the personification of the United States. It was also a historical name used to describe the Americas and the New World.

Wonderful remastering of Arrau's Columbia, RCA Victor recordings. I wish SONY had properly labeled the Camden LP artist as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra instead of the silly pseudonym that Victor used during the 1950's. The balance of the pianist’s Columbia recordings are presented as a two disc reproduction of the 80th birthday LP set the label issued in 1983, and which includes Schumann’s Kreisleriana - actually the first complete score Arrau recorded for the label in 1946 - along with the Liszt Rhapsodies, Chopin Andante Spianato and Polonaise and a smattering of other pieces.

The Chorale enjoyed an intermittent existence, being formed and re-formed on an ad hoc basis for national and international tours and RCA recordings until 1965, shortly before Shaw assumed the post of Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

The origins and authorship of "Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean" have been the source of some uncertainty. It is believed that Thomas A'Becket, S. a British musician and longtime resident of Philadelphia who performed at that city's Chestnut Street Theater, wrote the lyrics – and possibly the melody – at the request of David Shaw for the latter's performance at. a benefit concert, probably in the autumn of 1843

It may have functioned as an unofficial national anthem in competition with "Hail, Columbia" and "The Star-Spangled Banner" until the latter's formal adoption as the national anthem of the United States in 1931. For many years the song's melody was used as the Voice of America's interval signal. Score Key: A major (Sounding Pitch) ( View more A major Music for Guitar ).

Referencing RCA Victor Orchestra* - Singing Games For Primary Grades, and the included insert for "A Library Of RCA Victor Records For Elementary Schools (Continued)", it seems this is a part of "Basic Patriotic Program." When and if a complete album for that entry is discovered, this entry should probably be removed or merged.
