Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart, Bach-Collegium Stuttgart. Soprano: Arleen Augér; Alto: Julia Hamari; Tenor: Peter Schreier; Bass: Wolfgang Schöne; Echo-soprano: Christa Muckenheim. 1st recording of BWV 248 by H. Rilling. Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart, Bach-Collegium Stuttgart.
Lobet Gott in seinen Reichen (Laud to God in all his kingdoms), BWV 11, known as the Ascension Oratorio (m), is an oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach, marked by him as Oratorium In Festo Ascensionis Xsti (Oratorio for the feast of the Ascension of Christ), probably composed in 1735 for the service for Ascension and first performed on 19 May 1735.
The Christmas Oratorio (German: ), BWV 248, is an oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach intended for performance in church during the Christmas season. It was written for the Christmas season of 1734 and incorporates music from earlier compositions, including three secular cantatas written during 1733 and 1734 and a now lost church cantata, BWV 248a. The date is confirmed in Bach's autograph manuscript.

Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart, Helmuth Rilling.
Helmuth Rilling (b. 1933) recorded all of Johann Sebastian Bach's (1685-1750) sacred Cantatas between 1970 and 1985, with the Bach Collegium Stuttgart and in some cases, Württemburg Chamber Orchestra on 70 CDs as presented here. I find this to be an excellent set: the performances are excellent even if the recording job is in some cases not as clear as the later, digital recordings. Some writers are too critical of Rilling's set, which I believe to be excellent
