There is controversy whether this a scientific hypothesis or more of a political notion.

The first part, linguistic determinism, refers to the concept that what is said, has only some effect on how concepts are recognized by the mind. Strong determinism refers to a strict view that what is said is directly responsible for what is seen by the mind. It has the potential to be used in describing a great many misunderstandings in everyday life. When one says a Pennsylvanian says yuns it doesn’t make any sense to a Californian, but when examines it is just another word for you all.

The issues this hypothesis raised not only pertain to the field of linguistics but also had a bearing on Psychology, Ethnology, Anthropology, Sociology, Philosophy, as well as on the natural sciences.

This idea lies behind the m of LeftWing and PostModern philosophers. For example, an Apache sentence meaning "He invites people to a feast" is translated into English as "He, or somebody, goes for eaters of cooked food. To Whorf, examples like this proved that the Apache mind had to be fundamentally different from his own. Whorf's claim that the Hopi have no concept of time does not stand up to scrutiny.

Richard J. Gerrig, Mahzarin R. Banaji, in Thinking and Problem Solving, 1994.

When the aliens arrived, the colonel Weber called the linguist Louis and the Mathematician Ian to join other team contained of military officials.
