London-based Turkish producer Sami Baha will release his debut album on Planet Mu in June. Titled Free For All, the 13-track LP features guest appearances from Yung Lean, footwork producer DJ Nate and drill artist Dimzy. Baha first appeared on Planet Mu with 2016’s trap-inspired Mavericks EP, but the label says that his debut LP expands its range into more unfamiliar territory. The record also features Egyptian MCs Dawsha and Abanob, who Baha met while on tour in Egypt

Free For All (Feta Mix) This collaboration between up and coming London-based producer Sami Baha and Sweden's Yung Lean has an almost nursery rhyme feel. Sami's signature detailed production with Lean's laid back rap really sticks in your head with repeated plays. On the b-side is Sami's own remix of the title track from his forthcoming album 'Free For All'.

Sami Baha is a Turkish producer based in South East London. His music was introduced to the world via his 2016 EP 'Mavericks' (Planet Mu), recorded while he was moving from Istanbul to London where he's now been living the last 3 years. Sami got into producing through being a rapper himself, working with local rappers in Turkey and producing beats for them, before setting his sights outside the country. The title and front cover (devised and photographed by Beyza Ucak) carry the contradictions of Sami's music beautifully. He says 'Free For All' reflects his musical background, combined with modern genres, but also it's a gaming term where every player fights each other. The graffitied cover is from Sami's neighbourhood where he takes a walk everyday. He says "Sometimes it feels as if I am the only one around".

Baha's production skills are clear across Free For All. Fans of instrumental grime artists like Slackk will find much to admire in the austere yet precisely constructed "Aliens," whose sense of space is uncommonly sophisticated. Like many grime artists, Baha has been strongly inspired by video games. The title Free For All references multi-player games. A riff on "Gambit" has a boss-fight feel. A track of his from 2014, "Chunk," sampled Mortal Kombat. But the music is often more cinematic than 2D graphic. That's especially true of the sun-baked guitar.

Sami Baha is a Turkish beatmaker based in London, influenced by hip-hop styles such as trap and drill as well as forms of popular Turkish music, particularly Arabesk. His music is released by British IDM institution Planet Mu, and it fits in perfectly with the label's roster of futuristic electronic artists, while also serving to demonstrate the global influence of trap. Baha utilizes many of the familiar drum-machine tones and ominous melodies common to trap, but his arrangements are a bit twisted and perverted, tossing in unexpected glitches and more explosive basslines.
