Lovesexy is the tenth studio album by American recording artist Prince. The album was released on May 10, 1988 by Paisley Park Records and Warner Bros. Records, a little over a year after Prince's previous studio album, Sign o' the Times, which received critical praise and a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.

Lovesexy Live was the fifth Prince home video to be released and second live concert released on Home Video format. The footage comes from a live broadcast¹ of Lovesexy Tour concert in Dortmund, on 9 September 1988. Both companies acquired radio and television distribution rights for worldwide distribution, excluding USA and Japan territories, which were on the tour schedule in late 88 and 89. Negotiations.

The album famously starts with Prince's protégée at the time, Ingrid Chavez, reciting a quick poem with nice keyboard flourishes that really helps the album's atmosphere. Sadly, Prince does not perform this song enough as he should live, as it is an anthem of a song. Things get a bit slow with "Dance On", an unfocused mish mash of Sheila . s fantastic drumming and Prince's guitar doodling.

Prince had intended to release The Black Album, also known as The Funk Bible, as the follow-up to Sign O' The Times, but was dissuaded after having a particularly bad experience with MDMA. The story is perhaps best explained by journalist Simon Price: With only days remaining before The Black Album’s release, Prince experienced a ‘dark night of the soul’ which he later referred to as ‘Blue Tuesday’. On 1 December 1987, Prince gatecrashed the DJ booth of Rupert’s nightclub in Minneapolis, wanting to try out a few Black Album tracks with a club crowd

On May 10, 1988, Prince won a personal battle between good and evil with the release of his 10th album, 'Lovesexy. Of course, it doesn't seem like sales potential was foremost on Prince's mind when he created 'Lovesexy. One look at the cover, featuring the artist completely nude in a "sure to be censored or hidden by retailers" manner, makes that quite clear. It gets worse if you really think about what's used as the stigma of the flower behind hi. The photo, like the album itself, is designed to celebrate a spiritual rebirth within Prince, and it seems this awakening came after a moral crisis of some magnitude.
