Although it was something of a one-shot (only one other album appeared under his name), it's one of the more interesting salsa records of the classic era. Dimond's piano playing was in similar company to Eddie Palmieri, playful and elegant, but Brujeria allows him a lot of soloing space. Ismael Quintana and Justo Betancourt lend their vocal weight to the coro, while Angél Canales provides lead vocals (the LP was at one point even reissued under his name). If it had been released under Willie Colón's or Larry Harlow's name, Brujeria might not have the esteem that many salsa.

My copy says MONO on labels and cover but in fact plays STEREO.Anybody here with a REAL Mono pressing?

In the tune, “Tiene Sabor” the singer crows about the essence of the band and shows off the talents of the bassist and timbalero as well as Dimond’s inimitable work. In “Brujeria”, “Mariquita”, “Yo No Tengo Pena” and “El Barrio” the trumpeter also steps out to show off his skills. The talented Markolino wrote and arranged all of the selections on this album. His work on the keyboards serves as the driving force behind his orchestra. The musical arrangements here tend to move the listener (in particular his or her feet) due to the flow of musical prowess that gushes from the instruments of this group of fine musicians. All in all, this is an album you’ll truly enjoy.

This is Mark Diamond, who Spanglishized his name to be "Markolino." This is a very rare, and a serious collectors Must Have. This was his great and much sought after debut LP as a soloist, as well as Angel Canales recording debut! The majority of his musicians, 80% were former musicians of that 1 great LP wonder; Ray Jay And The Eastsiders - Roly Poly, and he formed: Markolino Diamond y El Conjunto Sabor. Which later on went to Anagel Canales. He was "Un tremendo Pianista." Not too many people know that Mark Dimond (a.k.a. Markolino) was the Pianist in Hector Lavoe's 1975 debut (as a soloist) in that great LP "La Voz." He heavily influenced Latin Jazz piano riffs. It's a real shame his death so early in life was due to heroin drug overdose. He started out with Willie Colon 3 years before this release came out.
