Kemialliset Ystävät (Finnish for "Chemical Friends") is the name of a recording project of musician Jan Anderzén of Tampere, Finland. Anderzén began recording under the name in 1995 and although he has enlisted numerous musicians over the years, most Kemialliset Ystävät recordings are solo productions

Kemialliset Ystävät (pronunciation here; English translation: Chemical Friends) is an ever changing group of free form pilots revolving around Jan Anderzén. They have been sending murky audio clouds from their basement in Tampere, Finland to the people of the world since 1995. The band works in short, spooling instrumentals, building layers of simple repetitive riffs into laminal mudcakes and weaving ghosts of folk song into huge tunnels of drone.

The majority of Kemialliset Ystävät, though, functions on a significantly more abstract plane, one in which tinny strings shiver amid oily electronics and anything is a percussion instrument. Kemialliset nimbly juke in tight spaces, cherry-picking tiny, erudite rhythms out of their drag and drone. They often do this outside the realm of traditional rhythm instruments: "Tulinen Kiihdytys" whirs and chatters against the forest floor for two minutes before a single plucked string reveals itself as the tether.
