Laughing Hyenas formed in 1985 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Brannon (previously of Negative Approach), guitarist Larissa Strickland (aka Larissa Stolarchuk, previously of L-Seven), drummer Jim Kimball and bassist Kevin Strickland (aka Kevin Munro) The band released their first studio album, You Can't Pray a Lie, in 1989 . Laughing Hyenas demo cassette EP (1986, self-released). Come Down to the Merry Go Round EP (1987, Touch and Go Records).
Laughing Hyenas were a punk/blues band from Ann Arbor, Michigan that were around from 1985 to 1995. In the band's ten year run, they only had two consistent members, which was vocalist John Brannon (formerly and currently from Negative Approach) and guitarist Larissa Strickland (formerly from L-Seven, not to be confused with L7). They had a few different bassists and drummers, though their original two (Jim Kimball and Kevin Munro) did later play in a fantastic band called Mule. Kimball also played drums in The Jesus Lizard a few years down the line

Formed from the ashes of vocalist John Brannon's band Negative Approach and guitarist Larissa Strickland's band L-Seven (not L7), the band had the rawness of hardcore punk combined with the emotion and grittiness of the blues.
