In stark contrast to a large percentage of his previous work, XTEP is joyous all the way through. The five compositions abandon the furrow-browed quest for cutting-edge exploration exchanging it for an altogether more carefree fun approach, with only the footwork-influenced ‘Monj2’ directly referencing any current electronic influences, however even on Monj2, the vintage sound palette dominates.
Brace Yourself is an EP by Mike Paradinas released in 1998 under his main moniker µ-Ziq. The title of this EP is derived from the track "Brace Yourself Jason" from µ-Ziq's earlier album Lunatic Harness and features two remixes of the title track itself, "Brace Yourself (Remix)" and "Brace Yourself (Reprise)". Brace Yourself" (Remix) (5:56). Losers March" (4:42). Summer Living" (4:03).
The Hills are Alive with the Sounds of µ-Ziq. I saw today that µ-Ziq has just released an new five track EP ‘XTEP’ on his own Plant Mu label. It is Mike Paradinas’ his first new material under this alias in 5 or 6 years. It is also the first µ-Ziq release I have checked out in about a decade: actually 2003’s ’Bilious Path’ was the last µ-Ziq I bought. The eight track album has a more straight forward musical feel with elements of techno and synth pop. Four of the tracks feature vocals by Gravenhurst, aka Nick Talbot who is known for his dark, folk tinged singer songwriting for Warp records. Over all it a more interesting album than it is compelling but certainly worth 40 minutes of you time to give it a listen. Paradinas Mu Bimple Castle Rix-Martin .

-Ziq - XTEP Though this is his first proper release as μ-Ziq in over half a decade, Planet Mu head Mike Paradinas' comeback happened earlier in the year with Heterotic's Love And Devotion album. A collaboration with his wife, the project is marked by its sunny disposition. That chipper sheen carries over to XTEP, which abandons the breakcore fury of his earlier work in favour of clear-headed songwriting
