It's a little uneven and definitely not the reinvention of music as we know it, but Myths of the Near Future is a strong enough debut to survive a level of hype that has crushed other bands, and enjoyable enough to return to when the hype dies down.
Surfing the Void is the second studio album by British indie rock band Klaxons, released on 23 August 2010 through Polydor Records. The album was produced by Ross Robinson, and was recorded in Los Angeles, California. The album was preceded by lead single "Echoes" on 16 August. Following the release of the band's Mercury Prize-winning debut Myths of the Near Future in 2007, Klaxons began working on their second effort the following year.

Myths of the Near Future is a collection of science fiction short stories by British writer J. G. Ballard, first published in 1982. Myths of the Near Future". Having a Wonderful Time" - Written in the form of postcards, the story chronicles a young couple who vacation on the Canary Islands, but their flight home is repeatedly cancelled until it becomes apparent that they-along with thousands of other families vacationing-will never return home, and have been forever exiled.
Klaxons are special, though, because they know they have to have more than that one level. That said, if this is naval-gazing, then it turns out that the entire galaxy is spinning away in there

During promotion of Myths of the Near Future, the band described it as "a concept album about their fantasy vision of the future" and the first in a trilogy of albums, with subsequent releases intending to deal with the present and the past. Upon the week of its release, "Golden Skans" climbed to number seven in the UK Top 40 charts.
Klaxons exploded onto the music scene this year in a day glo burst of punk riffs, all out hedonism and classic British art school conceptual cheek. Now with their debut album Jamie Reynolds (26), Simon Taylor (24) and James Righton (23) look set to prove that they're more than just a flash in the pan, a London media fad, an excuse to froth about 'new rave'. The lads have come good with eleven tracks that rocket by in thirty-five minutes emanating more energy than a nuclear explosion. Flagbearers for the "nu rave" movement they helped found, London's Klaxons make their full-length debut with Myths of the Near Future. Fans of the old rave, initially, will be forgiven for not knowing what all the fuss is about-beyond a dramatically punked-up cover of "Not Over Yet" by '90s chart star Grace, the Klaxons owe precious little to the synthetic rush of UK clubland past or present.
