lime Box clever, watch your system come together Crazy weather at the end of my tether Massive in the area, murderer Attack inna the area, murderer Some go softly, softly 'round the habitat Ratchet in the right hand, they got no one to stab it at Take a walk, billy, don't be a hero Effort's on minimal though almost touch zero.
I think Blue Lines is the greatest of Massive Attack's albums, perhaps because i enjoy the hip-hop vibe on Blue Lines over the darker, more atmospheric noises the group would use later on. You have so many great tracks on this album, you got "Daydreaming", "Be Thankful For What You've Got", "Safe From Harm" and ofcourse "Unfinished Sympathy". well, i can understand why people don't like it, especially if they have already established Mezzanine as massive's signature sound (which it is now), but back then it was quite a bit different.
Listening to Massive Attack's debut album, Blue Lines, 21 years after its initial release is like reading an old William Gibson novel that describes the then-near future, which is now the present, with unsettling precision. Nearly every song offers a sound currently in use in music's taste-making leading edge. Robert "3D" Del Naja's chopped-up vocals on the album-opening "Safe From Harm" sound freakishly like the chorus to Kanye et al's "Mercy" (even if Ye actually lifted it from DJ Screw, who was developing his idiosyncratic style 5,000 miles.
As the Bristol collective's landmark album is reissued 21 years on, Sean O'Hagan, an early champion of the band, recalls its making and its lasting influence. The three members of Massive Attack were invited to do a DJ set on a French radio programme some time back in the early 90s. Having written about and befriended the group back then, I was lucky enough to receive one of the few cassette-only recordings of the set. It offered an illuminating glimpse of the musical undercurrents they'd drawn on in making their groundbreaking debut album, Blue Lines, released in 1991.
