Nicholas Ward and the NCO bring their customary style and eloquence to this music in performances that evocatively portray its blend of formal unity, radiant vitality and occasionally – as in the rhythmically imaginative finale of the C major Symphony – rustic charm. Opening allegros are suitably vivacious, andantes are graceful and poignant and the vigorous finales bristle with energy . the performances of the Northern Chamber Orchestra under Nicholas Ward are consistently stylish and engaged. This is well worth anyone's fiver!' (Classic CD).
