Time and a Word is the second studio album by the English rock band Yes, released in July 1970 by Atlantic Records. It was put together several months after the release of their debut album Yes, during which the group continued to tour heavily and recorded Time and a Word during gaps between shows. Yes continued to follow their early musical direction of performing original material and cover versions of songs by pop, jazz, and folk artists

Time and a Word is Yes’s second studio album. In this album, Yes used a small orchestra of brass and strings, a decision which guitarist Peter Banks disagreed with. In April 1970, during the UK tour and before the album was released, Banks was fired from Yes and replaced by Steve Howe

Before they broke out with The Yes Album, Yes recorded two albums that aren’t particularly remembered as great achievements. Their self-titled debut was however quite good, and very interesting in hindsight of what they’ve gone to achieve later. Not exactly the same can be said about Time and a Word.

Time And A Word is a music studio album recording by YES (Symphonic Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1970 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Even without Wakeman or Howe, this rates easily alongside The Yes Album, Fragile and Close to the Edge as one of the quintessential early prog-rock albums. Not only is it near-impossible to find a flaw, but every song is both great and succinct, yet the album retains an exceptional cohesiveness. As much as I love all the others, I'm tempted to agree.

Time and a Word isn’t Yes at their best, but it’s an incredibly underrated slice of prog rock history. Time and a Word is, in many ways, typical for a band’s second album. It takes the successes of the first album and matures them, adding fresh elements when possible. In the context of Yes‘ career as a whole, Time and a Word is a transition piece, elevating the band from the psychedelic organ rock of the self-titled into something more ambitious and nuanced- Time and a Word would start a streak of ambitious symphonic prog that would last a decade
