Paul Melancon has managed to pull off something rather extraordinary with the aptly titled Camera Obscura. Indeed, he offers listeners a series of pop music snapshots, each having a unique allusion to something that is not at all obvious to the naked ear. As enjoyable as this record is as background or driving ambience, you really need to listen closely and thoughtfully to get the full scope of Melancon's talent and really understand the twists and turns of his characters and stories.

Paul Melançon plays music. Literate, moody, indie-pop music. He's released three critically acclaimed CDs: Two solo (Slumberland on M Records and Camera Obscura on Daemon Records) and one with the Arts and Sciences (Hopeful Monsters, also on Daemon). He's toured with the Indigo Girls, played International Pop Overthrow four times (LA, Boston and Atlanta) and SXSW.

Camera Obscura is the sixth and final solo studio album by German singer Nico, featuring the backing band the Faction. It was recorded in March–April 1985 and released later that year by Beggars Banquet Records in 1974. It was Nico's final studio album before her death three years later.

Camera Obscura is the melancholy second solo album from the former lead singer of Atlanta power-pop band Radiant City. Paul Melancon's tales of lost love and disillusionment are spread loosely across an amusement park/circus motif, with songs like "Overture," "Entr'acte," and "Fine" tying together the story of a man whose unspoken love for an absent woman ultimately results in arson and suicide. This purported concept album (centered around a fictional amusement park; I'm not sure exactly how Jeff Lynne fits in there) shows that Melancon's ready to play with the big boys.

The Arts and Sciences are solo artist Paul Melancon and his band, together at last. Purveyors of literate and melodic indie pop music, the band calls Atlanta, GA, home and originated as Paul put together a band to tour in support of his acclaimed 2002 Daemon Records release Camera Obscura. Good players are all fine and well, of course, but the most important consideration when forming a band is "can we spend time in the van together?" This band is van-tested, from extensive touring along the east coast and two stints touring with the Indigo Girls.
