Finally got around to opening the copy I bought a while back -- warped indeed! :-( Also, the track listing is somewhat off!!
Adorardana
So which release is better? This or the oldest one?
Wenaiand
Thankfully (based on some other comments here) my copy is perfect. Such a great album.
Mr.Bean
Same here, every side sounds good as it should be

This is defenitely a great album and also a fantastic edition , heavy gatefold , 4 lps in dedicated sleeves with fine artwork , even the quality of paper is exemplary , all in all , an amazing combo !!! My only caveat would be the production , I don't really get that "overcooked highs" thing , it adds a piercing quality that fatigues after a while ... I also have the same issue with their first album I own in original German , toned & brittle highs that spoil the party ... also , other fields of production could be better , lows sometimes sound fat and congested , voices muffled , I could go on ... anyways , life isn't perfect , so I'll stop bitching and plain enjoy :-)

I was just sent replacement copies for all the I(n)Grooves Thievery reissues. Im kind of scared to open them since I already know that at least Richest will be warped. I appreciate that Thievery's people replied to my emails and eventually did what they could do by replacing them with sealed copies. Still, I think Thievery has learned a valuable lesson(too late in my opinion) about where they should outsource their music for vinyl mastering and reissuing. They probably should of stuck with the original format of the original releases, but maybe next time, look into a reputable company like Light in the Attic Records, they are doing it right these days.

Haha I got a copy that had 2 first discs as well. Luckily the seller is an awesome guy and let me return it for a perfect copy. No warping on mine, so there is hope for getting a good copy still.

I would like to know this as well because all of my copies are unplayable garbage
Jerdodov
How did you contact them? i just bought this and got two copies of the same A and B disc as opposed to A B C D... Thank you
Legend 33
well i got a replacement copy of this lp.. and that one was warped too.. in multiple places on the second disc... such a bummer.. had been looking forward to owning their albums for about 10 years or so now.. prob the artist i've listened to the most in that span.if you are thinking about buying this pressing.. i'd avoid doing so unless the retailer you're buying from has a good return policy.
Banal
and apparently the store that sold it to me continues to knowingly sell these seriously flawed records
Fenius
well, the replacement i received was more of a "we'll send you another copy..and hope you get lucky" kind of approach. haha. no from the label or thievery themselves. just another copy from the same batch.
Dikus
was this the supposed corrected replacement?
Spilberg
Vinyl C/D of mine has a ridiculous warp. Where the hell was the quality control on this release?
Brazil
i ordered mine about three months ago from a german recordshop. it was a preorder back then, but amongst the other reissues of thievery corp. this album was the only one which was always delayed and never arrived until today. the sleeve is definitely corrected, the tracklist is now right. i hope they did something about the quality as well, should arrive tomorrow.edit: arrived today and almost every side plays perfectly, no warp, no paper stuck to records, tracklist is right, side d has clicks and pops. shame about the nice music.and the other reissue (sounds from the thievery hifi) states 120 gram. mine is 140 gram.

I notified everyone in Thievery Corporations Staff about the horrible quality reissues and received a few replies but no update on what they are doing about it . As far as Ingrooves goes... F*** those dudes, I wrote them several times since they are the ones who cut and pressed the vinyl but no response from them.
Peras
Vinyl #1 was highly warped. Side D on vinyl #2 was pressed off-center, causing sound distortion when played. Sadly had to return it to the record store since Until the Morning is my favorite song and was unbearable to listen to on this pressing.
Uanabimo
mine was defected and warped, bad pressing.
Iseared
I have a few clicks and pops on my brand new copy.
Diab
There's actually a typo in the track labeling. Basically the track labeling for all sides of the record is wrong. Side A only has three tracks. Therefore, Side B has Interlude, Omid (Hope), All That We Perceive, and Un Simple Histoire (A Simple Story). Side C has Meu Destino (My Destiny), Exilio (Exile), From Creation and The Richest Man In Babylon. And Side D has Liberation Front, The State Of The Union, Until The Morning and Resolution.
Renthadral
This should be in the release notes.
anonymous
was this repress only a double LP?
Thorgahuginn
Yes, 2xLP

Following on from from their first two albums the Richest Man in Babylon continues on the same theme. Here you will find rich, down tempo, dubby, warm grooves that sound like they are from all over the globe. If you like anything else by Thievery Corporation then you won't be disappointed.

Emiliana Torrini helps bliss out, "Heaven's Gonna Burn Out Your Eyes," the opening track of Thievery Corporation's THE RICHEST MAN IN BABYLON, an auspicious start. "Facing East" mines a keep well of Middle Eastern groove, which reappears on "Un Simple Histoire." Lou Lou offers up a cosmic dreaminess with "Omid," while the funk slides out on the horns of "All That We Perceive." Brazil pops back up on "Meu Destino" and the Afro-Caribbean side of it on "Exilio." But the dub is never far from their consciousness, made explicit in "The Outernationalist" and the title track, or in mellowed-out form on "From Creation" or "The State of the Union." Torrini returns for lazy, loping "Until the Morning," and "Resolution" ends the album on a swell of strings. This album is rich indeed.

This album is absolutely a highlight for all private collectors or DJ`s.Unique music, underground club music, all styles, bossa latin, perfect voices and lyrics, new downbeat future styles.Triple AAA+++For me one of the best album in last 10 years.Don`t miss it.

I just got this release the other day. I can't believe how awesome this album is and I enjoy every song that's on it (some more than others). The wide variety of worldy sounds make up some of the most beautiful tracks I've ever heard. The lyrics and the vocals are magical as well. Track 14, with the lady singing, kills me every time...

I have just been to the Thievery Corporation appearance in Thessaloniki, first date of their world tour... What can I say about the lot. The two hour wait for the main console to be fixed was worth every single moment as the group travelled the clubbers into a musical journey throughout their various ethnic sounds!!! I let the whole set and appearance as a surprise to those of you who will attend their concert. All I can say is that they mixed smoothly old tunes with ones from their new "Richest man..." album. Best moment of the concert, when they played per-capella (unplugged) the homonym track from their 3rd album!!! Respect! The album is as chill-out as well as uplifting melodic/down-tempo/lo-beat with great vocals for a perfect sunset at the beach!

Such a rich, varied album, indeed. Exploring the delicious sounds of dub, the mellow vibrance of Brazilian bossa nova and intoxicating exotic Jamaican beats, Richest Man in Babylon transports us into a magical journey through the tropics, perfect for late night listening sessions. Once again, Thievery Corporation consolidates as one of my favorite artists of all time.
