His new album, The Mainframe, is the British producer's next effort to do a widescreen R&B crossover, and it makes for a far better audition reel. In 2011, Joker's The Vision was a pop-move faceplant that squandered the momentum he'd built off his early singles. Its followup, The Mainframe, certainly isn't that. This, perhaps, is Joker's "vision" finally realised. It's just as overblown as its predecessor-more so, even, thanks to a palette of expensive sounding orchestral plug-ins. But the vocal appearances are much more sparing, limited to unremarkable turns from Zak Abel and Rochelle, and a skeevy performance from Sam Frank on "Lucy," the album's one truly grim moment. Instead, the focus has shifted back onto Joker's instrumentals. Still, just as, an hour or so into Transformers 2, the adrenaline rush peters out and the clunky sentimentality starts to grate, so too does this album outstay its welcome. The title of mawkish closer "Mixed Emotions" sums it up nicely. The Mainframe feels like the album that Joker has wanted to make all along. Whether that’s a good thing is questionable. The Mainframe is a listening album as much as a dancefloor album it and hints at what a Joker produced mainstream artist album would sound like with moments like ‘Wise Enough’ feat Zak Abel, ‘Lucy’ feat Sam Frank and ‘Love’ which features, winner of Dutch X Factor, Rochelle.

That's the memo Joker 's placing on his forthcoming album, The Mainframe. Out of grime and dubstep's dark basement, comes 25-year-old Liam McLean, a super-producer from Bristol who has grown to become one of most innovative (and enigmatic) electronic music producers of our time. Joker is preparing a brand new sonic feast for the world on February 16, 2015, when he follows-up his "purple"-popping debut LP, The Vision (2011), with yet another experimental take on his R&B, pop and grime influences. Compared to 2011's The Vision, what was your mind-frame like during the making of this album? I had fun making The Vision.

Fantasitc sounding press of a great electronic album. This one hits hard. Only thing is that I could have gone for the vocals being included on "Lucy." I was always a sucker for that one in his winter mix.
It's OK. I do like "Midnight" though.
