Comparisons to Tim Buckley circa "Song to a Siren" and Nick Drake's Five Leaves Left are not inappropriate; obviously Shannon is not as startling a talent as either of those late masters, but his complex folk- and jazz-flavored melodies and lyrical acoustic guitar style, as well as his breathy vocal delivery, certainly sound heavily influenced by one or both. The better songs, such as album opener "Forgiveness" and the simply lovely "Lion's Mane" are instantly memorable.
John Shannon is an American folk-rock singer-songwriter. Shannon grew up in Pittsbugh, Pennsylvania. His adolescence was spent in Pittsburgh's underground music scene, where indie-rock house shows and jazz gigs influenced him as much as an American Indian survival school. He is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

American Music is the debut album by American rock and roll band The Blasters released in 1980. The song "Marie Marie" became breakthrough hit for Shakin' Stevens in 1980, see This Ole House. Matchbox also recorded the song for their 1980 album Midnite Dynamos. In 1997 the album was released on CD by Hightone Records. The tracks "Marie Marie" and "American Music" were rerecorded for The Blasters' second and wider-distributed eponymous album. All songs composed by Dave Alvin, except where noted.
What's up everybody I am releasing my first solo guitar record called Guitar Improvisations today - It's mostly finger style all one take improvised tracks inspired by the circular stylings of the legendary music mystic Moondog and the circular nature of Aboriginal Australian Art. I first started working on these new techniques of guitar expression while playing guitar in a circus show touring Australia a few years back.
