Air is the debut album of the band Agua de Annique formed by the former The Gathering vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen. On 5 June 2007 it was announced that Van Giersbergen would be leaving The Gathering in August 2007 to focus on a new project, Agua de Annique, on 24 November 2007 she performed the song Somewhere with Within Temptation in Eindhoven. On 7 February 2008 she performed the song Somewhere again with Within Temptation at the Ahoy arena in Rotterdam, Van Giersbergen also sings on the Ayreon album 01011001, released in early 2008.

Air has two of the most rocking songs that she has ever done since ‘Shot to Pieces back in 2000. The first song (and better of the two) is Witnesses which is railing against Jehovah’s Witnesses and religious dogma in general. This song has a great driving riff that is layered over an equally great synth line, along with a percussive sound that resembles that of boots marching in unison.

And that's exactly how this album was approached. Of course it makes for a singer songwriter album, rather then having anything to do with prog or rock. All elements that made the Gathering progressive are stripped away. Anyway, what Agua The Anique brings is short melancholic rock songs and ballads, catchy verse chorus tunes with the most basic of rock arrangements: drums, bass and one guitar.
