Rufus Thomas was an American rhythm and blues, funk, soul and blues singer, songwriter, dancer, DJ and comic entertainer from Memphis, Tennessee. He recorded for several labels including Chess and Sun in the 1950s, before becoming established in the 1960s and 1970s at Stax Records. He is best known for his novelty dance records including "Walking the Dog" (1963), "Do the Funky Chicken" (1969) and "(Do the) Push and Pull" (1970)

Rufus Thomas (March 26, 1917 – December 15, 2001) was a rhythm and blues and soul singer from Memphis, Tennessee, United States, who recorded on Sun Records in the 1950s and on Stax Records in the 1960s and 1970s. He was the father of soul singer Carla Thomas (best known for the classic song "B-A-B-Y") and keyboard player Marvell Thomas.

His best known song is probably Walking The Dog (1963), later covered by artists such as The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. Rufus Thomas is the father of Carla Thomas, Vaneese Thomas and Marvell Thomas. 룹에서: Rufus Thomas & His Orchestra.

renamed Rufus Thomas Park. Thomas released an album of straight-ahead blues, That Woman is Poison!, with Alligator Records in 1990, featuring saxophonist Noble. In 1996, he and William Bell headlined at the Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1997, he released an album, Rufus Live!, on Ecko Records  . Rufus Thomas' grave, at the New Park Cemetery in Memphis.

Rufus penned three songs including the hits "Walking The Dog," and the 17 minute long "Do The Funky Chicken," a third "Big Fine Hunk Of A Woman," is a blues set off by a comedic rap. He turns Merle Haggard's classic "Today I Started Loving You Again," into a nearly 19 minute tour-de-force.
