The song is a fitting choice of this day and a blast to hear, beginning as an ominous processional and then erupting about halfway through into a conflagration of corrosive riffs, frenzied soloing, and pummeling drum beats, as the bestial vocals proclaim a warning. Well, I don’t know about you, but I think Bloodbath picked a fine day to premiere the morbid title track to their forthcoming fourth album Grand Morbid Funeral.
Bloodbath is a Swedish death metal supergroup from Stockholm, Sweden, formed in 1998. The band has released five full-length albums, two EPs and two DVDs depicting their performances at Wacken Open Air (in 2005) and Bloodstock Open Air (in 2010). The group comprises Martin Axenrot (Opeth), Anders Nyström (Katatonia), Jonas Renkse (Katatonia) and Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost).
Recorded by Bloodbath and Karl Daniel Liden, at Ghost Ward, City Of Glass & Tri-Lamb Studios, during the first half of this foul year of our Lord, the album is the second with Old Nick on vocals. If Grand Morbid Funeral was a thick spray of deathly noise, on The Arrow Of Satan Is Drawn, it is the rotten, fetid state of the world and our inevitable doom that is casting a looming shadow over proceedings.
Resurrection Through Carnage. Nightmares Made Flesh. The Fathomless Mastery. Grand Morbid Funeral. The Arrow of Satan Is Drawn.
Country of origin: Sweden. Bloodbath formed in 1998 during one evening when friends Mikael Åkerfeldt, Anders Nyström, Jonas Renkse, and Dan Swanö, had the idea to play death metal in the realm of Entombed mixed with some of the US Florida death metal scene bands. Mikael Åkerfeldt left.
Samhain was formed in 1983 in Lodi, New Jersey, by vocalist Glenn Danzig and bassist Eerie Von following the breakup of The Misfits. The idea for Samhain, though, had allegedly been concieved a few years prior to that and a number of songs for the project were written while Danzig was still in the Misfits (the Misfits also recorded a few songs that Danzig had written with Samhain in mind). In 1990, Danzig and Von completed work on five tracks meant for "Samhain Grim" which ended up constituting the first half of "Final Descent" (the album was originally rounded out by a remixed version of the band's "Unholy Passion" EP). In 1999, Danzig organized a brief Samhain reunion which consisted of Steve Zing and London May alternating between bass and drums, and Todd Youth filling in on guitar.
